If you or your child are a high school musician, you’ve come to the right place! Best College Music is here to support you through the college admissions process, whether you are looking to major in music performance, incorporate music into your college experience, or leverage your musical talents to make your application stand out. In the coming weeks, we will be using this blog to explore topics including the various types of music programs, careers in music, summer programs, and strategies for audition success.
But first, allow us to introduce ourselves. Founder Dave Best is passionate about orchestrating the college search for talented students. Dave’s unique path has led him from his Bachelor’s in accounting and MBA at Lehigh University to a career in business at leading companies such as Deloitte, Estée Lauder, AT&T, and FP&L. For the past eight years, Dave has served as an Independent Educational Consultant and has successfully helped many students through their college admissions journey. Dave is one of the few college admissions consultants who focuses on the highly specialized world of music admissions.
Also a member of the Best College Music team is clarinetist Justin Best. Justin holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Clarinet Performance from The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. He is an active freelance musician based in Houston, TX, including recent performing engagements with the Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera, Opera in the Heights, and the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. Justin’s educational and performance endeavors have carried him all over, from Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, to Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, to two summers in Breckenridge, Colorado performing with the National Repertory Orchestra. Justin brings this experience to the Best College Music team to help provide students insight into music school life and guide them through college audition preparation.
